A Normal Library

Is there any place as comforting as a library? Surrounded by books, I feel home. I could head to a book store, but I prefer the library because it's the ultimate recycling center. My second choice is always a used bookstore, especially if there's a cafe attached.

I've basically had my nose stuck in a book since I started crawling. On my first trip to Europe, I walked around the Colliseum in Rome reading the last chapter of a book while my exasperated mother tried unsuccessfully to get me to listen to a tour guide. I just wandered off to the side, leaned against one of the centuries-old walls and finished the final chapters. No matter how far I travel, my favorite place in the world is lost in my own imagination.

My nightstand is often overflowing with a pile of books. (Or it was, until I gave into the eReader craze to save paper. It was one of the hardest things I've ever done.) I don't necessarily have a style. While I love non-fiction, I often just want to turn my brain off and laugh. That's when I turn to silly chic-lit that could be real. I'm not into paranormal or sci-fi. I'd rather be able to relate to the characters. Anyhow, here's a list of my favorite escapes from reality (and a few not-so-funny titles).
